The success of women in the driving profession

Success of Women as Professional Driver: For A Safer Road With the aim of empowering women, Gonoshasthaya Kendra was the pioneer in women driving training.it started with Saleha begum in 1986, who became the first professional woman driver. Following Saleha's footstep, many women stepped up and followed the same path. Unofficially GK started training women driver in 1996. In 2004, GK made the initiative official with food and lodging included. Handful of women drivers trained by GK is now employed in many multinational organizations and INGOs. Like every year, this year on 31 December 2019, the seminar was held in Gonoshasthaya nagar hospital auditorium. The chief guest of this seminar was Ilias Kanchan, famous celebrity and a road safely advocacy activist. Among the special guest were Dr. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Director, Accident Research Institute, Khandkar Enayetullah, DG, Bangladesh Road And Transport Owners Collective, Mr. Tapan Kumar Das, Director, Gonoshakkhorota Ovijan, Md. Rafiqul Islam, Director, FNB, Mahbub Akhter, Program Manager, Citizenís Initiative, Adv. Shilpi Akhtar, And Among Professional Drivers, Mamuni Akhter from Gonoshasthaya Kendra, And Aklima Begum, UNDP gave speech. The chief guest mentioned that, one person alone cannot actualize the right for road safety, it is a rather collective effort, and to ensure safe road, we have to try harder to ensure it with everyone's help. The chairperson for the seminar, Dr. Manzur Kadir Ahmed, CEO, Gonoshasthaya Kendra gave the closing speech, where he said, driving is an independent profession, and the training process is expensive. If we can employ every driver and equip him or her with proper training, the rate of road accident will decrease in a dramatic rate. Gonoshasthaya has always played a vital role in ensuring women rights, and empower them with driving training among many other things.
