The organizer of the public health photo contest inaugurates the contest at the National Press Club, Dhaka. In an effort to create awareness for public health issues, the country’s second Public Health Photo Contest (PHPC2019) jointly organized by Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) and Gono Bishwabidyalay (GB) of Bangladesh in partnership with 27 local, national, and international organizations has been launched. Dr. Manzur Kadir Ahmed, CEO, GK, announced the contest by a press conference at the National Press Club’s Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall on 18th June 2019. Professor Dr. Abul Qasem Chowdhury, Former Vice-Chancellor, GB, Professor Dr. Laila Parveen Banu, Vice-Chancellor (Acting), GB, Ghulam Mostofa Dulal, Executive Director, GK, Dr. A.K.M. Rezaul Haque, Director, Rural Health & Training, GK, Dr. Taufique Joarder, Research Director, USAID’s Multisectoral Nutrition Project, Hasan Saifuddin Chandan, Chief Judge of the contest and first FIAP gold medalist of Bangladesh, and Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, Founding Trustee, GK, were present, among others. The main aim of the contest is to highlight public health issues through the visual medium of photography. PHPC2019 is open to any Bangladeshi citizen residing in Bangladesh aged 18 years or older on the day of the entry deadline, and up to three photos can be accepted per contestant. Each photo shall be accompanied by a short title and description (75-200 words) in Bengali or English. PHPC2019 Member Secretary Khaled Mosharraf Chowdhury, explain the contest procedures, aims, and objectives of arranging the contest through a multimedia presentation. One winner and one runner-up from last year’s contest also delivered speeches on their experiences they gathered through participating in the contest in 2018. The ten winners and ten runners up will get prize bonds, certificates, and books autographed by renowned public health leaders. The deadline to submit photos is 31st August 2019.
